Validating STREAMD through peer-reviewed research

Validating the affect STREAMD has on patients as they prepare and recover from surgery has always been of paramount importance to our team.

To date, STREAMD has been included in four peer-reviewed research studies, including two randomized clinical trials published in The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS), the gold-standard orthopedic journal.

Article 1 - Campbell et al. 2019 (JBJS) reported that patients enrolled in STREAMD stopped their opiod pain medication 10 days sooner, placed two fewer phone calls to the office, regained their motion sooner, visited the ER less, and we more satisfied with their care compared with patients who did not receive their surgeon’s messages after knee and hip replacement.

Article 2 - Campbell et al. 2020 (Curr Rev Musculoskelet Med) included STREAMD as an illustrative example of a conversational orthopedic chatbot in a review article about patient engagement and remote patient monitoring in orthopedic surgery with a specific focus on patient engagement software and the impact that patient engagement software can have on outcomes and orthopedic clinical workflows.

Article 3 - Nahhas et al. 2020 (JBJS) reported that sending educational STREAMD text messages along with pamphlets can increase the appropriate disposal of unused opioids from 9.0% to 38.4% in patients undergoing hip and knee replacement.

Article 4 - Campbell et al. 2021 (JAAOS Glob Res Rev) reported that text messages are the preferable way for patients to receive information from their surgeon’s office during the postponement of elective cases during the COVID-19 pandemic.
